Spine Toolbox Demo
Juha Kiviluoma, Senior Scientist, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland This presentation will be a demonstration of the actual workflow using Spine Toolbox. We will show you how to import data; how to add your own processing tools to the workflow; how data can be viewed and modified; how does the scenario system work and how different tools can be served from the central database. FRANTIC: Financial Risk and the Impact of Climate Change Jean-François Mercure, Global Systems Institute, Department of Geography, University of Exeter
Gregor Semieniuk, Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) and Department of Economics, University of Massachusetts Amherst
Jean-Francois Mercure (University of Exeter) and Gregor Semieniuk, (University of Massachusetts Amherst) will present new models of the macroeconomy and financial networks to assess the risks and consequences associated with climate change. Those models were part of the FRANTIC project which aimed at developping a robust characterisation, quantification and communication of climate-related transition risks. Video

How Québec can support the energy transition of northeastern North America?Viviane Aubin, Energy modelling analyst, Hydro-Québec
Northeastern North America is transitioning rapidly from fossil fuel generation to variable renewable energy (VRE) sources such as wind and solar. Once VRE represent a large share of installed capacity, intermittency and variability of their production will become a major issue. Hydro-Québec, the public electric utility in the Canadian province of Québec, has a large hydropower generation fleet. Its storage capacity enables adjusting hydro production, when the system needs it, to support VRE integration. Potential impacts of VRE growth within neighbouring grids have been simulated through operational production management models. The results show that Hydro-Québec has the potential to facilitate this energy transition but that the current electricity market structure does not provide incentives for an optimal contribution.
