Jean-Nicolas Paquin received his Master’s degree from École de Technologies Supérieure (ÉTS), Montreal, in 2006. He specialized in the simulation and modeling for electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies with a focus on HVDC controls and protections. Mr. Paquin started his career as a specialist in real-time simulation and hardware-in-the-loop studies at OPAL-RT Technologies, in 2007. He has been involved in the development of a new range of power system simulators and contributed to the specification of simulation tools dedicated to key research facilities. He joined BBA Inc. in 2010, a Canadian Engineering firm. He has been involved in projects including wind power plant engineering, co-generation power plant testing, validation and modeling and in various power systems studies. He has acted as Owner’s Engineer for an independent power producer in the design, construction and commissioning phases of a wind farm and has provided technical assistance to other wind energy producers and turbine manufacturers. His experience and interests revolve around power system analysis using advanced simulation tools as well as specialized testing and validation. Mr. Paquin has returned to OPAL-RT in 2014. He is now Manager of the Application eXpertise and Electrical Simulation (AXES) at OPAL-RT TECHNOLOGIES. As a subject matter expert, he is also involved in market strategy and R&D orientation for key product development.
