Hossein’s research expertise includes areas of environmental economics, public economics, and applied microeconomics. His academic research is focused on optimal policy design in the presence of externalities, distributional effects of environmental regulation, directed technological change in upstream and downstream natural resource sectors, and the growth effects of intellectual property rights. Before joining SPI, Hossein worked as a researcher at the Canadian Energy Research Institute (CERI) conducting different projects ranged from economic effects of residential and transportation electrification to evaluating environmental regulations in the Canadian electricity markets. Hossein holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Calgary, where he also worked as an instructor during his studies.
